Beginning in July, Pickens County Meals on Wheels will expand its service by building a second
route in the greater Dacusville Community. The initial cost of this expansion will be funded
through the Community Impact Grant from the Pickens County United Way. “This part of the
county has been in need of coverage for several years. It is our longest route in Pickens County
and has more applicants and fewer discharges than other routes,” says Meta Bowers Executive
Director of Meals on Wheels.

There was a lot to celebrate at this week’s Rotary Meeting. Jon Morgan, Pickens Rotary Club President, presented Pickens County Meals on Wheels with a check for $12,500. The check represented proceeds from the Pickens Rotary Club Spaghetti Dinner held March 19, 2011.

Easley Moose Lodge # 2219 and Women of the Moose 1807 presented Pickens
County Meals on Wheels with two checks totaling $1,376, qualifying them as members of the "Adopt a Senior" giving level, for those whose contributions can support a MOW recipient for one year.

The 2nd Annual Wings and Wheels event proved itself as a community favorite for
a second year. The warm and sunny weather made it an ideal way to enjoy the day, while raising more than $8,000 to help feed
the homebound in Pickens County.

Gerald Reese, Pickens County Meals on Wheels Board Chairman, today announced the Board
has appointed Meta Bowers as the executive director for Pickens County Meals on Wheels
(PCMOW), replacing Meg Benko who resigned effective March 18.

A cross-county caravan called, "Share the Love" is scheduled for Friday, March 18th. Meals on Wheels organizations from five counties including Spartanburg,
Cherokee, Anderson, Greenville and Pickens are teaming up to heighten awareness about senior
hunger. Celebrity drivers Sam and Jane Wyche will lead the drive.

Pickens County Meals on Wheels will roll out a new signature event this year at the Azalea
Festival in Pickens, S.C. The non-profit, 501 (c) (3) will host its first bicycle ride called, "Pedal
Pickens County – Meals on Wheels Charity Ride." At 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 16th, cyclists of
all levels will leave the festival from Griffin Street, one block from Main, to pedal the foothills
of Pickens County.
