Pickens County Meals on Wheels

Community Partners

Meals on Wheels is a powerful movement of everyday people standing up to isolation and helping our senior neighbors stay healthy and live independently in their own homes. Pickens County Meals on Wheels has a proven recipe to make this a reality. Volunteers and donors are vital ingredients, and every day, we need your help to keep our wheels rolling!

Being a Meals on Wheels volunteer is a great opportunity for people who enjoy making a difference in people’s lives. It is a perfect fit for churches, church groups, civic organizations, and businesses. There are many different ways to volunteer:

• Meal Delivery – Have an hour? Help deliver one of our 23 routes once a week, once a month or somewhere in between.
• Kitchen Assistance – Assist in the preparation and packaging of the 350 meals daily that will nourish hundreds of seniors in Pickens County.
• Senior Center Activities – Like to work with seniors? Engage senior adults in recreational, socialization and educational activities at the McKissick Center in Liberty.

Donations provide the direct financial support needed to sustain the Meals on Wheels program. These monthly or annual pledges contribute to the approximately $1,200 needed to provide weekday meals and companionship for each client for an entire year. By 2050, the number of seniors will double. Investments in Meals on Wheels provides a cost-effective way to care for those we serve today and prepare for unprecedented number of seniors who will need us in the future.

In-kind donations are always welcome, and needed. Examples are office equipment, office supplies or gifts for our Volunteer Luncheon.

From breakfast burritos and boxed lunches to top-notch buffets and plated dinners, we can do it all. Whether here at the McKissick Center or at the location of
your choice, our team can design and customize a menu to fit your needs, budget and make your event spectacular. In return, you’ll be helping provide nutritious meals to the homebound. All catering proceeds will be used to continue serving our community!

Investments of time, talent and treasure by our Community Partners will ensure that the seniors who took care of us are not forgotten, hungry or alone. In addition to gaining valuable exposure and strengthening your ties to your local community, our Community Partners will be recognized at their total annual giving levels, whether in financial gifts or volunteer time. One hour of volunteer time is valued at $21 (independentsector.org).
